In instances where abnormal cells have been identified during a routine check-up or an HPV test shows high-risk results, there might be need for further diagnosis via colposcopy—a process we excel at Womens Health Group Chicago. During this examination procedure, your physician will closely examine your cervix to accurately identify abnormalities which could otherwise go unnoticed.
Our clinic also provides Cryotherapy treatments—an effective method used to treat pre-cancerous cellular changes found during cervical screenings or colposcopies by freezing off unhealthy tissue from the cervix using cold metal probes cooled by liquid nitrogen. The entire process is virtually painless and requires minimal recovery time.
At times when precancerous lesions are identified in the cervix through diagnostic processes like Colposcopy or Cryotherapy isn’t appropriate due to certain limitations such as location/size of lesion etc., Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure (LEEP) may be recommended. It uses a thin metal wire loop that delivers an electrical current to remove abnormal cells from the cervix with precision and care.

A Pap smear is a screening test to detect abnormal cells on the cervix, the opening to the uterus. It is a simple and quick procedure that can be done during a routine pelvic exam.
